Born and raised in Moradabad, Ilma’s early years were fraught with hardships. The untimely demise of her father when she was just 14 years old shifted the weight of the family onto her mother’s shoulders. Those were testing times, but the family battled every storm together, drawing strength from each other.
Driven by a passion for learning, Ilma always excelled academically. Her early education in Moradabad laid a robust foundation, enabling her to secure a seat at the prestigious St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, where she pursued her graduation in Philosophy.
Her diligence and commitment didn’t go unnoticed. Following her graduation, she was awarded a scholarship to the esteemed Oxford University for her postgraduate studies. But life at Oxford wasn’t a bed of roses. To meet her additional expenses, Ilma juggled her studies with teaching tuitions and babysitting.
As she neared the end of her postgraduate journey, a golden opportunity knocked on her door. A lucrative job offer from abroad promised her a life of comfort and luxury. But for Ilma, the call of her homeland was irresistible. With a heart full of dreams for her nation, she declined the offer and returned to India.
Determined to make a significant impact, Ilma set her sights on the Civil Services Examination. With the same determination that had guided her throughout her life, she prepared for the exam. In 2017, her dedication bore fruit when she secured the 217th rank, joining the esteemed ranks of the Indian Police Service.
