Team India T20 Captain: In a pivotal turn of events for Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively considering reinstating Rohit Sharma as the captain of the T20 team. This decision comes ahead of the announcement of the team for the upcoming South Africa tour across all three formats.

The current scenario has been influenced by the unavailability of the regular T20 captain, Hardik Pandya, who is sidelined due to an injury and is expected to be out of action for the next month. With Pandya’s absence, the BCCI finds itself at a crossroads, contemplating either to appoint Suryakumar Yadav as the interim captain or to persuade Rohit Sharma to reassume the leadership role.

A BCCI insider highlighted the dilemma, stating that while Hardik’s future return poses questions, the board is optimistic that if Rohit agrees to lead the T20 side, he would continue as captain until the next T20 World Cup. However, if Rohit declines, Suryakumar Yadav is poised to captain the team in the upcoming T20 series against South Africa. It’s also noteworthy that Virat Kohli has requested a rest from the limited-overs series of the South Africa tour.

Another aspect under consideration is the management of player workload. The Indian team is set to engage in a packed schedule, playing six limited-overs matches in a span of 11 days, including three ODIs in just five days. Following this, the test series is scheduled to commence on December 26th, only five days post the limited-overs matches.

The team composition also hinges on whether KL Rahul will take up wicketkeeping duties. If he does, this opens up a potential spot for Ajinkya Rahane. The fast bowling unit is expected to be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, who is eager to return to Test cricket, along with Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur.
