The accused, Sourav and Maneesh, created a fake Instagram profile and befriended the victim. Once they gained her trust, they acquired access to her explicit pictures and demanded Rs 10.5 lakh from her. If she didn’t comply, they threatened to post the images online.
The accused received the money in their bank accounts, and upon further investigation, the police found hundreds of photographs on their mobile phones. It was revealed that the duo had targeted other women using the same technique.
Following the victim’s complaint, an FIR was registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
