Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to present her sixth consecutive budget on February 1, 2024. With this budget presentation, she will be creating several records. Not only has she consistently presented five full budgets, but she also presented an interim budget and will soon join the club of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai who presented ten budgets during his tenure.

On February 1, 2024, she will present an interim budget. The main budget will likely be presented in July after the general elections. An interim budget will give the government the authority to spend in certain areas until a new government comes into power after the general elections scheduled for April-May.

The schedule for the budget presentation on February 1 includes Sitharaman taking part in a photo session with her team in the morning and seeking approval from the President for the budget and presenting it to the Parliament at 11 am. After the announcement of the budget, all related documents will be uploaded online for public access.

It is remarkable to note that after the budget presentation on February 1, Sitharaman will surpass former Finance Ministers such as Manmohan Singh, Arun Jaitley, P. Chidambaram, and Yashwant Sinha in the number of budget presentations. She will have presented six budgets, which exceeds the number presented by these leaders. Additionally, Sitharaman will become the second woman to present a budget, following in the footsteps of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who presented the budget for the financial year 1970-71.
