Five members of the LCFC Women’s squad recently volunteered at King Power Stadium to help pack over 350 food parcels for distribution to those in need across Leicester. Players Janice Cayman, Julie Thibaud, Lize Kop, Shannon O’Brien, and Sophie Howard were amongst the volunteers who joined forces with Leicester City in the Community, Islamic Relief UK, and Samworth Brothers to make this initiative possible.

The Club’s charitable arm worked in partnership with funding from Islamic Relief UK and logistical support from Samworth Brothers. The Senior Business Development Manager of Leicester City in the Community, Dan Mitchinson, emphasized the importance of such initiatives, especially in light of the additional pressures brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

The food poverty project is a key feature of LCitC’s revised Community Strategy, and they not only distribute food parcels but also host pop-up pantries and the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) program. The club’s players highlighted the importance of such events in supporting the most vulnerable in the region.

The food parcels were distributed to participants within Leicester City in the Community’s programs and through partner organizations, including Help the Homeless Leicester, Falcon Support Services, The Race Equality Centre, St Matthews Big Local, Women 4 Change, New Parks Adventure Playground, GoldenToken, and Wesley Hall.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the club and its players to give back to the community, especially during challenging times. For further information about the ongoing food poverty efforts, individuals are encouraged to contact Dan Mitchinson at [email protected]. It is heartening to see athletes using their platform to support those in need and making a positive impact in the community.
