American Canyon High School’s basketball program is making waves in the Vine Valley Athletic League. In particular, sophomore Jordan Woodson has been a standout player on the team. Last year, as a freshman, Woodson averaged 11.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. In her current sophomore season, she has continued to elevate her game, with the team currently holding a 6-3 record in the Vine Valley Athletic League.

During a recent three-game stretch, Woodson has been averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds, with standout performances such as a 22-point, 12-rebound game against Sonoma Valley, and a 15-point, 14-rebound outing against Casa Grande. Her stellar performances on the court have earned her the recognition of being named Times-Herald Athlete of the Week.

Woodson attributes her success to her growing comfort and confidence on the varsity level. She feels the game has become easier for her, allowing her to find her shots more effortlessly and play stronger defense. Additionally, her natural athleticism, combined with her willingness to ask questions and seek advice from her coaches has contributed to her growth as a player.

Coach Angela Davis expressed happiness with Woodson’s progress. She commended Woodson’s ability to ask questions and willingness to learn, observing that it has made her a smarter player. Davis noted that Woodson’s versatility as a forward player, with the ability to handle the ball, get assists, and even shoot from the outside, has been a valuable asset to the team.

Woodson also opened up about the challenges of transitioning to playing the post but has found her footing in this role. She has also highlighted the team’s chemistry and cohesion as a contributing factor to their recent success on the court.

Looking ahead, both Woodson and her coach agree that there is immense potential for continued growth and success. If Woodson’s game keeps improving, the sky is truly the limit, as stated by Coach Davis. It’s evident that Woodson’s dedication and talent make her an integral part of the team’s success.
