Australian billionaire Lang Walker, co-founder of Walker Corporation, passed away at his Woolloomooloo home on Saturday evening. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at 78 years old. Lang Walker and his father founded Walker Corporation 60 years ago, creating a company that specialises in earth-moving, excavation, and property development.
The family declared that they were devastated by the loss of a great man who was a devoted and caring husband, father, and grandfather. They praised his visionary projects and generosity that impacted so many lives.
Throughout the years, the Walker Corporation has completed over 1,200 projects, having significant influence on precincts in major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. Walker is famous for his company’s projects including the Sydney’s King Street Wharf, Finger Wharf in Woolloomooloo, and the revitalization of Rhodes into a thriving residential precinct.
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns commemorated Lang Walker’s outstanding business acumen and solidified his legacy through his development work.
In 2015, Mr. Walker was honoured as an Officer of the Order of Australia for his exceptional service to the community. He was also inducted into The Property Council of Australia’s Hall of Fame two years later and a founding member of the developer advocacy group Urban Taskforce Australia.
Throughout his life, Lang Walker has contributed $2.5 million to political parties and was declared the 16th wealthiest person in Australia with an estimated net worth of $5.81 billion.
His dedication to the community is evident in his immense contributions towards the $3.5 billion Parramatta Square project, and in partnerships with Western Sydney University (WSU) and Adelaide developing 12,000 homes. The legacy Mr. Walker has left behind has had meaningful impacts across the country. Mr. Lang Walker is survived by his wife, three children, and 10 grandchildren.
