Dev Patel is set to take on a whole new role as he prepares to unleash his desi-John Wick in the upcoming action thriller, Monkey Man. The Hollywood studio Universal Pictures recently unveiled the official trailer for the film, which also marks Patel’s directorial debut.
The movie draws inspiration from the legend of Lord Hanuman and is set in Mumbai. It features Dev Patel as a man seeking vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to oppress the poor and powerless. The film also marks the Hollywood debut of Indian actor Sobhita Dhulipala.
In Monkey Man, Patel plays the role of Kid, a young man who struggles to make a living in an underground fight club where he is beaten by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressing his rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the city’s sinister elite. His quest for revenge unleashes an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with those who took everything from him.
The film also stars Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, Pitobash, Makarand Deshpande, and Sharlto Copley. The trailer showcases Patel engaging in hand-to-hand combat, reminiscent of Keanu Reeves’ action-packed scenes in the John Wick series.
Monkey Man is produced by historical and notable names including Patel, Jomon Thomas, Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christine Haebler, and Anjay Nagpal. Patel has developed the movie from his original story and also co-wrote the screenplay.
