Ryan Gosling recently expressed his disappointment over the fact that the director of Barbie, Greta Gerwig, and the star Margot Robbie were not nominated in two major Oscar categories. Despite receiving a nod himself, Gosling made it clear that he believed Gerwig and Robbie’s work should have been recognized along with the other deserving nominees. Gosling’s statement was in response to Gerwig not being nominated for best director, but being named alongside her husband, Noah Baumbach, for best adapted screenplay. Robbie lost out on a best actress nomination, but was recognized for best picture as a producer. Gosling also expressed his happiness for co-star America Ferrera, who was nominated for best supporting actress for her role in the film.
In addition, British record producer Mark Ronson also championed Robbie and Gerwig for their work on Barbie. Ronson and Andrew Wyatt received an Oscar nomination for best original song for their power ballad “I’m Just Ken,” and Ronson made it clear that Robbie played an integral role in putting Barbie together.
Despite the disappointment, the Barbie star and director continue to receive praise for their contributions to the film. The 2024 Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 10th at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
