In a candid conversation with Sports Tak, Deepak Chahar revealed that his father’s ill health was the primary reason for his decision. He expressed his relief at getting his father, Lokendra Singh Chahar, to the hospital in time, averting a potentially dangerous situation. Currently, his father’s condition is stable, but Chahar emphasized that his participation in future series hinges on his father’s health.
IND vs SA: Chahar’s commitment to his family is clear. “At this moment, I cannot leave my father. He has been my pillar, shaping me into the cricketer I am today. My responsibility as a son takes precedence,” he stated. He has informed coach Rahul Dravid and the selectors about his situation, planning to rejoin the team once his father recovers.
Team India’s composition for the T20 series has been affected by Chahar’s absence. The team, under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captaincy of Ravindra Jadeja, includes promising talents and experienced players. The first match against South Africa is scheduled for December 10.
