Contrary to popular belief, Gambhir, in a recent interview with Sportskeeda, revealed that his best batting partner wasn’t Virender Sehwag, as many would presume.
Gambhir, who has never hesitated to critique players or advise the team, stated that his favorite cricket partner was actually MS Dhoni, especially in white-ball cricket. “My favorite cricket partner was MS Dhoni. People think that my favorite batting partner was Virender Sehwag, but actually, I loved playing with Dhoni more. We have made many big partnerships together,” he said.
Team India: The former player expressed his belief that Dhoni, often lauded for his exceptional leadership, had to put aside his own batting prowess due to the responsibilities of captaincy. Gambhir claimed, “People always talk about MS Dhoni and his achievements as a captain, which is absolutely true. But I think because of captaincy he sacrificed the batsman in him. He could have achieved a lot more with his bat, which he did not do. This happens when you are the captain, because at that time you put your team ahead and forget about yourself.”
