Yashni’s academic journey began at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Naharlagun, Andhra Pradesh. Raised in a family valuing education, her father, Thangavel Nagarajan, is a retired engineer, and her mother has also retired from service. Her younger brother, adding another feather to the family’s cap, pursued his studies from the esteemed IIM Indore.
Academia and the First Steps into the Professional World:
Graduating with a B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the National Institute of Engineering, UP in 2014, Yashni embarked on her professional journey as a Grade B officer in the Reserve Bank of India. It was during this phase that she kindled her ambition for the civil services and commenced her UPSC preparations alongside her banking duties.
Challenges Along the Way:
Success often doesn’t come easy. For Yashni, the journey to becoming an IAS officer was strewn with hurdles. Despite giving her best, she couldn’t clear the UPSC in her initial three attempts. However, her indomitable spirit was evident when she took on the challenge for the fourth time and emerged victorious.

2019 was a transformative year for Yashni Nagarajan. Not only did she pass the UPSC examinations, but she also secured an impressive 57th rank, turning her long-cherished dream into reality.
