In the bustling streets of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Afsana, a determined mother, and Shahzad Ahmed, a bicycle repairer, worked relentlessly with a singular dream: to educate their children and uplift their lives. Their story is a testament to the adage that where there is a will, there is a way.

Influenced by the Silver Screen

Afsana’s resolve to provide her children with a good education was catalyzed by a 1991 Rajesh Khanna movie, “Ghar-Parivar.” Moved by the portrayal of a mother who sewed to educate her children, Afsana decided to mirror this determination. Despite the tight financial circumstances, with Shahzad’s meager income from the bicycle repair shop established in 1985, Afsana bought a sewing machine. She began sewing clothes for the village women, contributing to the household income and ensuring her children’s education.

The Journey of Ahad Ahmed

Amidst these hardships, Ahad Ahmed, their second son, showcased a distinct yearning for education. Completing his primary education in Barai Harakh, he expressed his desire to study in Prayagraj. Recognizing his passion, Afsana, despite the family’s economic challenges, sent him for higher studies.

Ahad’s ambition didn’t stop at high school. He successfully cleared the entrance for BA LLB at Allahabad University in 2014. Though the financial constraints made it difficult to pay the annual fee, Afsana and Shahzad, understanding the importance of their son’s dreams, managed to arrange the amount through loans.

Post-graduation, Ahad began practicing at the Allahabad High Court. However, the COVID pandemic halted his budding career, compelling him to return home. Yet, adversity often fuels ambition. At home, Ahad embarked on his journey to prepare for the PCS-J examination. Without any external coaching, solely relying on his determination and hard work, Ahad cleared the pre and mains examination.

The interview round, however, proved to be a nerve-wracking experience. Doubts clouded his mind, but the evening of August 30th dispelled them all. A friend’s jubilant call informed him of his success – Ahad had passed with the 157th rank.

A Dream Realized

When Ahad shared his success with his family, it wasn’t just his victory but the culmination of years of Afsana’s sacrifice and perseverance. Tears of joy streamed down her face, knowing her sacrifices and the lessons from “Ghar-Parivar” had come full circle.
