T20 World Cup 2024: With the conclusion of the ODI World Cup, the cricketing world’s attention has now shifted to the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. One burning question in the minds of Indian cricket fans is whether the team’s two most experienced and celebrated batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, will be a part of the squad. The reason behind this uncertainty is that both Rohit and Virat have not featured in a single T20I match for India since the last edition of the T20 World Cup.

Recently, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan voiced his personal desire to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli participate in the upcoming ICC tournament. His comments added fuel to the already intriguing debate surrounding the inclusion of these two cricketing giants.

T20 World Cup 2024: Reports have been circulating that Rohit Sharma may consider retiring from T20I cricket to focus solely on Test cricket. On the other hand, there are speculations that the team management might opt for Ishan Kishan as an aggressive batsman in place of Virat Kohli at number three. These developments have led to diverse opinions among former cricketing legends from around the world.

While some former cricketers advocate for including Rohit and Virat, others argue in favor of placing confidence in the youth. However, Irfan Pathan, drawing on his own experiences, highlighted the importance of seasoned campaigners, especially considering the pitches in the West Indies where the T20 World Cup 2024 is set to take place.

T20 World Cup 2024: In a discussion on Star Sports, Irfan Pathan explained, “I would like to see them both play. The reason for this is the location of the tournament. The World Cup is in the West Indies, and the pitches have evolved. This is an ICC tournament, and we can expect better pitches, particularly for batting conditions. However, looking at the CPL (Caribbean Premier League) and local cricket in the West Indies, batsmen need to work really hard. This is where experience comes into play.”

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma currently hold the top two spots for the most runs scored in T20I cricket. Virat has amassed 4,008 runs, while Rohit boasts 3,853 runs in this format. The decision regarding their inclusion in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad now rests with the Indian selection committee, sparking further anticipation and discussions among cricket fans and experts alike.
