Hyundai and Kia have recently announced a recall of approximately 91,000 vehicles in the United States due to a damaged electrical component. The affected models include Hyundai’s Kona electric vehicles from 2019 to 2020 and Kia’s Niro hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles from 2017 to 2020.

The issue stems from a problem with the electrical circuit board, which could potentially cause a short circuit and increase the risk of fire. So far, both automakers have received reports of fires related to this defect, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

As a precautionary measure, Hyundai and Kia are advising owners of the affected vehicles to park their cars outside and away from structures until the necessary repairs are carried out by authorized dealers. The companies will be contacting vehicle owners directly to arrange for the repairs, which will be conducted free of charge.

This is not the first time these automakers have faced recalls due to electrical issues. In 2020, Hyundai recalled more than 180,000 Tucson SUVs due to an electrical short circuit in the anti-lock brake system, while Kia recalled around 50,000 Sedona minivans due to a similar issue.

Recalls are a common occurrence in the automotive industry as manufacturers strive to ensure the safety of their customers. Hyundai and Kia’s prompt response to this issue demonstrates their commitment to addressing potential risks and protecting their customers.

Owners of Hyundai and Kia vehicles should take this recall seriously and act accordingly by following the instructions provided. It is crucial to prioritize safety and avoid any potential risks until the necessary repairs are completed.

If you own one of the affected models and have not yet been contacted by the automakers, it is advisable to reach out to your local Hyundai or Kia dealership for further information. Remember, taking prompt action can prevent any potential hazards and keep you and your vehicle safe on the road.
