The “Kick and Learn” initiative, organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), aims to promote the educational and social values of football among young learners. This program was recently launched on January 31st, 2024, during the 34th edition of the Total Energies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. The event took place at Lycée Classique de Cocody in Abidjan and witnessed the participation of several football legends, including Salomon Kalou, Hérita Ilunga, and Daniel Amokachi.
The event included various educational workshops and activities with and without a football. CAF General Secretary, Véron Mosengo-Omba, emphasized the importance of education, stating that it has been a top priority since the arrival of President Motsepe at CAF. The aim is to utilize football as a means to encourage children to pursue education and instill values such as discipline and organization.
Salomon Kalou, a former Côte d’Ivoire striker and winner of CAF AFCON 2015, highlighted the significance of education alongside sports, stating that both are integral to a successful career. He commended CAF for organizing the event and pledged his support as a CAF ambassador.
The visit to Lycée Classique de Cocody was also praised by coach Kra Jean Ruffin, who expressed that CAF’s presence at the school would motivate the students to participate in the Sport-Etudes program.
The “Kick and Learn” campaign aligns with Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s 10-point program for CAF, which focuses on highlighting the transformative social and educational benefits of African football. The event also received the support and attendance of Mr. Omar DIOP, the Country Director of UNESCO in Côte d’Ivoire.
Overall, the “Kick and Learn” initiative serves as a platform to use football as a tool for promoting education, discipline, and societal values among African youth. Through the involvement of football legends and various educational workshops, the program aims to inspire and encourage young learners to pursue education and harness their talents for a successful future.
